Mploy Group is working with a fast-growing engineering and manufacturing business that designs, manufactures and supplies innovative machinery and equipment to a range of industrial customers. Due to continued growth and increasing demand, the business is looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its manufacturing facility in Cheltenham. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically minded Design Engineer who enjoys working within a smaller, hands-on engineering environment where you can see projects progress from initial design through to manufacture and completed machinery.

The Role

  • Work as part of a small, multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing team.
  • Design and develop mechanical systems, components and assemblies for industrial machinery.
  • Produce accurate 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise across design, manufacturing and equipment development.
  • Support projects from initial concept and design through to manufacture and completion.
  • Ensure designs are accurate, practical, manufacturable and delivered within agreed timescales.
  • Apply sound mechanical engineering and design principles throughout projects.
  • Work with geometrical dimensioning, tolerances and engineering drawings.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and other areas of the engineering function.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical and design-related problems.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve existing machinery and equipment.
  • Contribute ideas that improve engineering processes and the wider business.
  • Take ownership of the quality and accuracy of your engineering work.

What We're Looking For

  • A suitably qualified Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer.
  • Experience within mechanical design, ideally in a project-led engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong practical understanding of mechanical engineering and design principles.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Good understanding of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience designing machinery, industrial equipment or mechanical assemblies would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience within special purpose machinery, automation, manufacturing, capital equipment or industrial engineering would be beneficial.
  • An innovative, practical and solutions-focused approach to engineering.
  • Keen to develop new technical skills and broaden your engineering capabilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working independently while also contributing to a small multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
