The Opportunity
You’ll lead the Credit Hire function with full accountability for performance, people, and outcomes. This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll combine strategic oversight with direct involvement in complex, high-value litigation, ensuring both commercial success and technical excellence. You’ll also have the autonomy to refine processes, develop your team, and implement the changes needed to take the department to the next level.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage a caseload of complex, litigated Credit Hire claims (£25k - £100k+)
- Oversee Multi Track matters from inception through to trial or settlement
- Shape case strategy, pleadings, and evidential approach
- Instruct Counsel and drive cases to strong commercial outcomes
- Ensure full compliance with CPR and procedural requirements
- Take full ownership of the Credit Hire/Litigation team
- Lead, mentor, and develop solicitors and fee earners
- Build a high-performance, accountable culture
- Oversee recruitment and support ongoing team growth
- Maintain quality through file reviews, audits, and coaching
- Drive billing, recoveries, and overall departmental profitability
- Identify risks early and work closely with senior leadership
- Improve systems, processes, and operational efficiency
- Contribute to wider business strategy and growth plans
About You
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) - or equivalent experience
- Strong litigation background, ideally within motor claims
- Extensive experience in Credit Hire and/or Debt Recovery
- Proven track record leading or supervising a litigation team
- Confident handling Fast Track and Multi Track matters
- Strong working knowledge of CPR and litigation procedure
- Commercially astute, with a focus on results and performance
- Experience working with insurer clients or panel work (desirable)
- Comfortable using case management systems and legal tech
