About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Liability Claims Handler to join a growing and forward-thinking insurance business based in Colchester.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced claims professional to join a supportive team where you will play a key role in managing liability claims from initial notification through to resolution.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and investigating claims, determining liability and damages, negotiating settlements and maintaining strong relationships with clients, claimants and other key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of liability claims from initial notification through to settlement.
- Investigate claims thoroughly, gathering relevant evidence, documentation and information.
- Assess liability, coverage and damages in line with policy terms and conditions.
- Review and interpret policy wording to make accurate and informed claims decisions.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, claimants, solicitors and other relevant stakeholders.
- Provide clear and timely updates on claim progress, next steps and outcomes.
- Negotiate settlements with claimants, legal representatives and third parties.
- Prepare settlement proposals and recommendations where required.
- Ensure client SLAs and service requirements are consistently met.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive claims records and documentation.
- Ensure all claims are handled in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and internal procedures.
- Keep up to date with changes in liability legislation and industry best practice.
- Produce reports and summaries for management where required.
- Identify opportunities to improve claims handling processes and customer outcomes.
About You
The ideal candidate will have previous experience within liability claims handling, insurance or a similar claims environment and will be confident managing claims independently.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience handling liability claims within an insurance environment.
- Strong knowledge of the claims lifecycle and liability assessment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- The ability to analyse complex information and make sound, evidence-based decisions.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to manage a varied caseload and work effectively to deadlines and SLAs.
- A professional and customer-focused approach.
- Experience using claims management systems would be beneficial.
