We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor to support our Network Rail and Highway operations across the UK.
This is a key role within the business, working closely with senior leadership, site teams, and clients to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance, while actively driving a positive safety culture.
About the Role
As the HSQE Advisor, you’ll act as the Company’s competent safety representative for both Head Office and operational sites, ensuring compliance with legal, client, and industry requirements, including Network Rail and NRSWA standards.
You’ll play a hands-on role across live projects, supporting safe systems of work, maintaining accreditations, and providing trusted advice to managers and site teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the HSQE lead for Network Rail and Highway works, in line with NR/L2/INI/CP0070
- Support and maintain the Company’s Network Rail Principal Contractor Licence
- Provide regular HSQE reporting to the Senior Management Team
- Deliver site inductions, briefings, and workforce consultations
- Ensure compliance across all Gauge operational sites and projects
- Attend and contribute to client and project H&S meetings and forums
- Coordinate and chair weekly HSQE Senior Management meetings
- Lead the development and continual improvement of Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SMS / EMS)
- Manage the Occupational Health interface
- Support Safe Systems of Work planning, including:
- Network Rail SSOW Planning
- RAMS
- Method Statements / WPP / TBS
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence
- Environmental qualification
- CSCS Card
- Minimum 3 years’ HSQE experience in rail and highway environments
- Experience across Network Rail AC, DC, and non-electrified infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of Network Rail standards, RISQS, and Principal Contractor Licence audits
- Good working knowledge of NRSWA
Desirable:
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 3 (Rail)
- TechIOSH (or higher) membership of IOSH
- ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 Auditor (or working towards)
- Experience supporting or leading management system audits and accreditations
