The predicted salary is between 35000 - 45000 £ per year.
Based in the Midlands, this role will involve travel to multiple supplier and fitment locations to carry out Quality Inspections and Audits. Tasks will include asset inspections to support handover and hand‑back, in‑process quality inspections, final locomotive snagging and first article inspections. This will include the production of reports covering asset inspections, FAI’s and improvement opportunities identified.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring that the modifications completed by fitment partners are completed to a high standard.
- Ensuring fitment partners populate and record the correct information to the correct standards within installation and test documentation.
- Working with parts and equipment suppliers to oversee quality control during production, ensuring products meet the required quality standards prior to installation, including supplier visits.
- Carrying out first article inspections at Siemens and supplier premises.
- Carrying out ad‑hoc sample inspections of materials supplied to Siemens.
- Managing and overseeing the unit acceptance procedure from hand‑over to hand‑back, ensuring units are received in a suitable condition for modification work to commence, and checking the quality level of the installation before unit hand‑back.
- Compiling the final acceptance documentation pack.
- Confirming work is done to a satisfactory standard before customer and end‑user inspections, and leading Siemens locomotive inspections.
- Ownership of the snag‑list detailing issues with fitment and the proposed resolutions, logging and monitoring works arising or out of scope.
- Closing out and archiving of records in compliance with Siemens quality assurance requirements.
- Creating and modifying project/role specific procedures for tasks undertaken.
- Carrying out root cause analysis of quality issues, identifying corrective actions, and sharing lessons learned.
Qualifications
- Minimum level 3 apprenticeship in a recognised trade such as mechanical or electrical (essential).
- HNC qualification in a relevant trade (desired).
- Experience in a quality/inspection role (essential).
- Proven experience in rail vehicle retrofit/modification projects (essential).
- Experience and/or qualifications in auditing (desired).
- Experience in project mobilisation and implementing new or existing procedures and processes (essential).
This role will involve significant periods of time visiting the installation sites as well as travel between Siemens’ own facilities and suppliers’ sites; therefore a full UK driving licence and transport are required. The ETCS Freight Project base office is in Derby, East Midlands.
