Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee civil infrastructure and surfacing works on a fast-paced project based in Leicester. The successful candidate will have strong experience managing roadways, drainage, and tarmac/asphalt operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification. This is initially a 3-month contract with the possibility of extension depending on project requirements and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day site operations across highways, drainage, and surfacing works
  • Coordinate subcontractors, labour, plant, and material deliveries
  • Ensure works are completed in line with programme deadlines and quality standards
  • Oversee road construction, kerbing, drainage installation, and tarmac surfacing activities
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with HSE regulations
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, local authorities, and project stakeholders
  • Produce progress reports and attend site meetings
  • Identify and resolve site issues efficiently to minimise delays
  • Ensure RAMS, permits, and site documentation are maintained correctly

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Site Manager within civil engineering/highways projects
  • Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and workstreams
  • Strong understanding of CDM regulations and site safety requirements
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Essential Qualifications

  • SMSTS
  • CSCS Card
  • First Aid at Work

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on local authority or highways frameworks
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and programmes
