They are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Lead Design Engineer – Signalling to join their Rail Infrastructure business. In this role, you will lead and coordinate the design activities required for the safe and successful delivery of signalling projects, ensuring that customer requirements, project timescales, technical standards and quality expectations are consistently met. You will provide technical leadership to the design team, oversee the quality of design outputs and ensure that work is delivered safely, efficiently and within agreed budgets and programme milestones. What you’ll do Lead and coordinate the preparation of technical details, signalling plans, estimates and working drawings for signalling works, ensuring delivery within agreed timescales and authorised budgets. Undertake independent checking and verification of signalling designs in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards. Ensure technical, engineering and safety standards are maintained across all aspects of signalling design to support safe project implementation and long-term system reliability. Provide technical leadership, functional support and guidance to Design Engineers and other members of the project team across all aspects of signalling design. Review and assure the quality of design deliverables, ensuring they meet the required standards and project deadlines. Support the planning and forecasting of design resource requirements, helping to ensure appropriate allocation of engineering resources across projects. Work collaboratively with project, engineering and delivery teams to resolve technical issues and support the successful implementation of signalling projects. Promote a strong culture of engineering excellence, safety, quality and continuous improvement. What you’ll bring An Engineering Degree, HNC or HND qualification. IRSE Signalling Principles Designer Licence and Signalling Design Verifier Licence . Proven experience in the design and implementation of signalling systems, with strong experience in the preparation and checking of signalling plans and working details. Demonstrable experience in signalling design assurance and independent checking. Competence in: Scheme Plans Layout and Associated Plans (LAP) Specifications SSI wiring Fringe designs Design checking Strong technical knowledge of railway signalling principles, design processes and applicable engineering and safety standards. Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to provide clear technical guidance to engineers and project stakeholders. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs to agreed timescales. Desirable experience Experience in SSI (Westlock) data and Control Table design and checking . Knowledge and experience of WTS / Westlock trackside system technology . Experience working on complex signalling projects within a multidisciplinary railway engineering environment. Why join the client?
