Job Description – Infrastructure Solutions Engineer

Role Summary

  • This role forms part of a distributed, global infrastructure team that is responsible for the continued availability and support of a hybrid on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
  • Specifically, working within infrastructure project delivery, providing input to and delivering IT solutions to the Group, by drawing upon their wealth of practical and technical experience.
  • It may include the provision of escalation support to the service desk, infrastructure system administration and maintenance to all Companies within the Group.
  • The role will be expected to work within a fast-pace environment, with high degrees of ambiguity arising from a period of significant change.

  • General Responsibilities
  • Clients
  • Develop strong relationships with the Business Units
  • Respond to the Business Units’ requirements as appropriate
  • Support the business units with their use of the IT systems
  • Behave with all clients (both internal and external) fairly and ethically with excellent customer service
  • Take ownership of issues and provide updates to users on outstanding issues.
  • Support
  • Providing escalation support to the Group IT Service Desk during project activity
  • Ensuring all changes to production services are subject to change control
  • Producing documentation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of post project support as part of project delivery
  • Conducting root cause analysis following unplanned disruptions to improve system availability during project and warranty periods
  • Conduct Problem Management of repeat incidents affecting business services during project delivery and warranty
  • Experience with incident management systems, identify incident trends and gather relevant information systematically to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Experience in workstation management systems and imaging
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills

Technical Skills Required

  • Infrastructure knowledge – at least 5 years’ experience as a senior Infrastructure Project Engineer or similar IT role (e. g. Technical Specialist, Technical Architect)
  • Previous experience within the Insurance or Financial services industry would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Ideal candidates will have extensive experience working with cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure, O365 and Exchange Online
  • Extensive experience working with cloud, server, desktop, network and telephony providers
  • Extensive experience / hands on skills of building an Infrastructure rack end to end & physical office deployments, including UPS, Switch configuration, patching, Server build (physical and via SCCM), including hypervisor experience
  • Extensive experience working with multi-site and multi forest Active Directory environments, group policy and DNS
  • Good knowledge of networking - Layer2/3, dynamic routing, MPLS and firewall
  • Evidence of engineering technical solutions to business requirements
  • Be able to evidence experience of working within project delivery frameworks, able to demonstrate time management and labour estimating
  • Experience of Microsoft technologies such as SCCM, SCOM & TEAMS
  • Good knowledge of Citrix
  • Good Knowledge of Intune\Auto Pilot device management & app distribution
  • Good Knowledge of Azure able to work with Azure networking & understand security model for Azure to plan, rightsize and securely deploy VMs
  • Good knowledge of VMware deployment of guests & hosts
  • Experience with Email archiving solutions such as Mimecast or Enterprise Vault
  • HP branded server knowledge
  • Meraki, Juniper, Nortel and Cisco switch experience
  • Knowledge of Identity Management, AD Connect, Conditional Access, DLP & MFA
  • Project Management skills – ideally PRINCEII foundation
