The Senior Consultant will lead and manage post-contract management across a portfolio of contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual delivery obligations, risk mitigation, and value delivery aligned with strategic objectives. This role acts as a bridge between legal, sales, delivery, procurement, and finance teams to ensure business objectives are met with minimal legal and contractual exposure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end contract management activities, including post-award contract governance, variation management, and the preparation of Statements of Work for governance approval.
- Act as the commercial point of contact for internal stakeholders across delivery, sales, procurement, and finance, ensuring aligned execution of contractual obligations.
- Identify, assess, and manage commercial and contractual risks throughout the contract lifecycle, escalating where appropriate and maintaining up-to-date risk registers.
- Manage and resolve contract disputes, delays, and relief events in a timely and commercially sound manner, engaging the Legal team at the appropriate stage.
- Ensure all contractual documents — including contract changes, extensions, relief notices, delay notices, and proposals — are reviewed and approved in accordance with requirements.
- Engage the Legal team at the earliest opportunity when entering new contract negotiations or contract extensions, to agree negotiation strategy and identify key legal and commercial issues.
- Create, maintain, and continuously improve standard templates for Statements of Work, change orders, and other commercial agreements.
- Deliver contractually required reporting, attend and contribute to customer and internal governance meetings, and maintain accurate contract records and documentation.
- Monitor supplier and customer performance against contractual obligations, driving compliance and identifying opportunities for improvement or value recovery.
- Support business-as-usual contract management activities across the wider team, providing guidance and mentoring to junior members of the Contract Management function.
- Act at all times in accordance with Legal guidance and internal governance policies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial or contract management, ideally within a technology, defence, or public sector environment.
- Strong understanding of contract law principles and commercial frameworks, without acting in a legal counsel capacity.
- Confident negotiator with experience managing complex multi-party agreements and subcontractor arrangements.
- Commercially astute with the ability to balance legal risk awareness with pragmatic business delivery.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly at senior levels internally and with customers.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple contracts and priorities simultaneously.
- Self-motivated, resilient, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Collaborative team player with a continuous improvement mindset.
