As part of our Technology function, the Site Reliability Engineering team is responsible for delivering features to the business safer and sooner. We use cutting edge techniques and technologies to automate previously manual processes. We use delivery and monitoring pipelines to maintain a self-healing system that can respond to incidents without bothering humans. We tie technology decisions directly to key goals for the business. The importance of providing MPB with reliable, scalable and extensible deployment processes and environments is recognised as a critical element of our growth and continued success.

You will be responsible for building and maintaining automated processes, infrastructure, and ephemerals through use of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and configuration management. Working alongside your colleagues in SRE, P&E, and across the wider business to provide stable tooling and systems to support the development, deployment, monitoring, and running of features through to production.

What you will be doing:

  • Support the provision of ephemerals feature environments to enable development and testing of features and changes.
  • Support, develop, and maintain our automated pipelines.
  • Follow accepted engineering practices to ensure your changes are version controlled, tested, monitored, and released safely.
  • Take responsibility for identifying and developing relevant skills on a continuous basis.
  • Ensure the suitable security posture of our running infrastructure, applications, and any changes made to them.
  • Implementation and support of Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Responding to, diagnosing and resolving production issues, in conjunction with other SMEs in the Product & Engineering team.

What we are looking for:

Essential:

  • Proved experience in a Devops, SRE, Cloud Engineer, or Software Development role.
  • Experience with a programming language (We use Python).
  • Experience working with observability tooling across the core signals: metrics, logs, and traces.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience working with a Cloud hosting provider (we use GCP, but any major cloud provider would be fine).
  • Experience with an infrastructure as code tool (We use Terraform).
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Experience with a CI tool such as Jenkins, Github Actions.
  • Aware of networking concepts such as IP addressing, DNS, NAT, firewalls, port-forwarding, proxying.

Desirable:

  • Aware of Kubernetes.
  • Aware of MySQL and/or Postgresql databases.
  • Aware of CDNs such as Cloudflare, Cloudfront, or Akama.
