MPA is currently seeking dedicated Care Assistants to join a well-established, family‑run care centre based in the Derry/Londonderry area. This role is Permanent Full time. In this role, you will help maintain the highest standards of care while promoting residents’ dignity, independence, and overall wellbeing. We are looking for individuals with excellent communication skills who are committed, compassionate, and motivated to make a positive difference in residents’ lives.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care that respects dignity, privacy, and wellbeing.
- Act as a key worker for assigned patients, assisting new residents to settle into the home.
- Support patients with personal care, including washing, dressing, toileting, and maintaining a presentable appearance.
- Assist with meals, snacks, and drinks, monitoring intake and reporting any concerns.
- Observe, record, and report any changes in patients’ condition to the Nurse‑in‑Charge.
- Safeguard vulnerable adults and report any concerns, accidents, or incidents promptly.
- Ensure personal aids (dentures, hearing aids, spectacles, etc.) are clean, fitted, and in working order.
- Participate in rehabilitation and social activities to promote patient engagement and wellbeing.
- Maintain tidy, safe, and welcoming bedrooms and communal areas.
- Respond promptly to nurse call alerts and support daily operations of the home.
- Follow infection control, waste management, laundry, fire safety, and health & safety procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection policies, including responsible use of social media.
- Achieve and maintain NISCC registration and participate in mandatory training, including Food Hygiene.
- Complete accurate records, including food, fluid, and daily monitoring charts.
- Demonstrate a positive, flexible, and team‑focused approach to supporting residents and colleagues.
- Attend staff meetings and provide support to senior staff during incidents or as required.
- Perform additional duties within the scope of the role as requested by management.
- Experience of caring for people.
- Good oral communication skills. Ability to communicate with patients/residents, colleagues at all levels of seniority and families/visitors.
- Good interpersonal skills. Ability to empathise, maintain professionalism, display patience and politeness within a sometimes‑pressurised environment.
- A conscientious and flexible working style.
- Confidence to deal with difficult situations and to know when appropriate to seek guidance from senior staff.
- Drive and enthusiasm with a desire to update knowledge and skill set as required.
- Good team working skills and an ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Availability for shift work that may include days/nights, weekends and public holidays.
- An ability to undertake light manual labour.
- Experience of caring for older people in a nursing home or other formal setting.
- NVQ (Level 2 or 3) in Health and Social Care. Please indicate both the level of study and whether part or fully qualified.
- Training in mental health disorder and/or dementia care.
- An understanding of the concerns and issues regarding the care of those with dementia or mental health disorder.
- Caring and compassion for those with mental health disorder or dementia and their representatives and families.
- An understanding of the issues regarding the Protection of Vulnerable Adults.
- Working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety.
