About the Role: MPA Recruitment, on behalf of our client Belfast Health & Social Care Trust (BHSCT), is currently recruiting for a Finance Officer to join the Finance Directorate. The successful candidate will support a range of financial and accounting functions across the Trust, ensuring financial information is processed accurately and in line with relevant procedures, statutory requirements and strict deadlines. The role will involve supporting financial reporting, reconciliations, costing, capital accounting, budget monitoring and financial systems. The successful candidate will also assist with investigating financial queries, maintaining accurate records and audit trails, and providing support and guidance to colleagues and internal stakeholders. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to gain valuable experience within a large Health and Social Care organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process, maintain and review financial information in accordance with Trust procedures and statutory requirements
  • Assist with the preparation and completion of statutory accounts, financial returns and other financial reports
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including the accurate processing and recording of financial transactions
  • Reconcile bank and other control accounts and investigate and resolve queries arising
  • Assist with month-end procedures and the preparation of monthly financial reports
  • Support the production of statutory annual accounts and other relevant financial returns
  • Assist with costing exercises, including collecting, analysing and inputting financial and statistical information
  • Maintain accurate costing information and audit trails and assist with resolving costing queries
  • Support capital accounting activities, including capital expenditure reporting, asset additions and disposals, journals and capital charging
  • Assist with budget monitoring, financial planning, forecasting and variance analysis
  • Provide financial information, advice and support to relevant service groups and directorates
  • Assist with the maintenance and operation of Trust financial systems and support users to ensure procedures and controls are followed
  • Liaise with internal departments, Shared Services Centres and external organisations regarding financial matters
  • Investigate financial enquiries and provide appropriate advice and assistance
  • Assist with maintaining effective internal financial controls and ensuring the accuracy and quality of financial information
  • Provide support and guidance to junior staff and assist with training where required
  • Plan and manage workload effectively to ensure financial deadlines and reporting timetables are achieved

What We’re Looking For:

Applicants must meet one of the following qualification and experience routes:

  • Option 1: NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification; At least 2 years' finance experience, including at least 1 year's experience at Band 3 level or equivalent; Experience using computer systems in a working environment
  • Option 2: 5 GCSEs at Grade A–C or equivalent, including Maths/Accounts and English; At least 3 years' finance experience, including at least 1 year's experience at Band 3 level or equivalent; Experience using computer systems in a working environment

Applicants should also demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of finance arrangements within Health and Personal Social Services
  • Good communication skills
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to supervise staff
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders

Desirable Criteria:

  • At least 1 year's experience using Microsoft Excel, including intermediate/advanced features
  • At least 1 year's experience working within a Health and Social Care organisation
