To support children and young people with additional needs by providing personal care, emotional support, and practical assistance in a residential home under the direction of the Social Work Manager. This role requires an Enhanced Access NI check, two satisfactory references and health care training to be completed. A valid Northern Ireland Social Care Council registration must be held.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct Care & Support: Provide personal care (showering, feeding, toileting) while respecting privacy and dignity. Support children with daily routines and social, recreational, and educational activities. Offer emotional support, listening, and engaging with children in a caring and therapeutic manner. Supervise children in and out of the home, sometimes independently.
- Domestic & Household Tasks: Participate in household duties (cleaning, cooking, laundry) to maintain a homely and safe environment. Maintain cleanliness and appropriate storage of care equipment and materials.
- Record-Keeping & Communication: Keep accurate records and reports of incidents, behaviours, accidents, and care activities. Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, and other professionals. Contribute to care plan reviews and team meetings.
- Health, Safety & Safeguarding: Report child protection concerns, incidents, or risks promptly. Administer medication and first aid (once trained and authorised). Undertake training and safely perform manual handling and behavioural interventions. Adhere to policies on confidentiality, health & safety, fire prevention, COSHH, and safeguarding.
- Professionalism & Training: Attend training and supervision regularly. Register with the NISCC (Northern Ireland Social Care Council). Work professionally, flexibly, and in partnership with multidisciplinary teams and families.
- Transportation: Drive children and young people safely using a non-PSV vehicle as required.
Work Conditions: 37.5 hr contract (including days, nights, evenings, weekends on a rota basis)
Essential Criteria:
- NVQ Level III in Health and Social Care related subject or equivalent or higher educational standard and 1 years’ experience working with people who have a disability or children aged 5-18 years in a formal care setting in the past 5 years
- Or NVQ Level II in Health and Social Care related subject or equivalent or higher educational standard and 2 years’ experience working with people who have a disability or children aged 5-18 years in a formal care setting in the past 5 years
- Or 5 GCSE’s (Grades A – C) including English or equivalent AND have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with people who have a disability in a formal care setting or children in a formal care setting.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car is essential. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
