The predicted salary is between 12 - 21 £ per hour.

Location: Causeway Hospital

Hours: 30–35 hours per week (rota basis) Includes evenings, weekends, bank holidays and night shifts

Pay Rate: £12.75 - £21.55 per hour

Join a Fast-Paced Emergency Department Team. We are currently recruiting a Band 3 Emergency Department Officer to provide high-quality administrative and clerical support within a busy Emergency Department setting. This is a key frontline role where you will act as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, supporting Consultants, medical staff and multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate must be able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure, often without direct supervision. Please note: As this role is based within ED, you may encounter distressing situations, unwell patients and clinical specimens. Full training will be provided on the Encompass computer system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome and register patients and relatives at ED reception
  • Update and maintain accurate patient records using Encompass
  • Manage referrals including Phone First and CCG systems
  • Book appointments and follow-ups
  • Ensure accurate waiting time displays
  • Maintain data accuracy in line with Trust protocols
  • Act as first point of contact for all disciplines and visitors
  • Handle telephone enquiries and relay messages appropriately
  • Escalate urgent cases to clinical staff
  • Liaise with GP surgeries, hospital departments and external agencies
  • Arrange ambulance transport for discharge, transfer or investigations
  • Organise interpreter services when required
  • Manage out-of-hours hospital enquiries
  • Provide clerical support to nursing and medical teams
  • Maintain stationery and supplies
  • Adhere to confidentiality and infection control policies
  • Report IT, estates or equipment faults
  • Participate in major incident procedures and business continuity planning
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism and timekeeping
Essential Criteria
  • Either: 3 years’ experience in an office environment including use of computerised systems (e.g. Microsoft Office) OR 4 GCSEs (A–C) including English Language (or equivalent)
  • 1 year’s administrative experience including use of computerised systems
