About the Role:
On behalf of our public sector client, MPA Recruitment is inviting applications for the role of Information Governance Advisor. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in Information Governance, particularly in areas such as Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), Records Management (RM), or Data Protection (DP). You will support the Information Governance Manager/Data Protection Officer in delivering a professional, compliant, and responsive Information Governance service across the organisation. The role offers valuable exposure to public sector governance frameworks and the opportunity to further develop your career in this field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Information Governance Support: Assist with day-to-day Information Governance queries and requests, focusing on FOI, EIR, RM, and Data Protection. Support the management of requests under relevant legislation including FOI Act 2000, EIR 2004, and UK GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018. Provide professional advice and guidance to staff and stakeholders across the organisation.
- Policy & Compliance: Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of Information Governance policies and procedures. Promote compliance and best practice across all areas of Information Governance. Assist staff in handling requests by providing clear and practical guidance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work collaboratively with the Information Governance Team and key stakeholders including SIRO, IAOs, and IT Services. Provide cross-functional support across FOI, Records Management, and Data Protection as required.
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare draft reports and management information for committees and senior management teams. Contribute to quarterly assurance updates where required. Analyse data trends and support compliance monitoring.
- Casework & Correspondence: Assist with Internal Reviews (appeals) relating to FOI, EIR, and Data Protection. Prepare draft correspondence for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Draft advice notes to improve staff awareness and understanding of Information Governance.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential Criteria:
- Degree (or equivalent) with at least 1 year’s relevant administrative experience. OR HND (Level 5 or equivalent) with at least 2 years’ relevant administrative experience.
- Experience working within a team to provide advice and guidance on policies and procedures.
- Experience analysing data and reporting on trends and compliance.
- Demonstrable understanding of FOI, EIR, Records Management, or Data Protection.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
- Excellent planning, organisational, and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence or access to suitable transport.
Desirable:
- Understanding of the wider Information Governance function.
- Professional qualifications such as: Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or FOI CIPP/E CISM BCS Practitioner Certificate in FOI (or equivalent).
- Experience providing Information Governance advice to a range of stakeholders.
Additional information: A Basic Access NI Check is required.
