The Opportunity As Senior Estimator, you will take ownership of the tendering process from initial enquiry through to submission, ensuring bids are commercially competitive, technically robust and aligned with client requirements. You will play a key role in identifying opportunities, managing risk and supporting business growth through the delivery of successful tender submissions. Key Responsibilities Lead the preparation and submission of detailed tenders across civil engineering and construction projects. Produce accurate cost estimates from first principles through to complex subcontract package assessments. Analyse drawings, specifications and project requirements to develop competitive and profitable submissions. Identify commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions. Obtain, assess and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations. Develop construction methodologies and support preliminary programming activities. Work collaboratively with commercial, procurement and operational teams to prepare winning bids. Prepare and submit tender documentation, programmes and technical information within strict deadlines. Price a variety of civil engineering works including earthworks, drainage, paving, ducting and infrastructure projects. Manage subcontract procurement packages and evaluate tender returns. Present tender submissions at internal review and adjudication meetings. Support post-tender negotiations and commercial discussions with clients. Provide comprehensive handover information to delivery teams upon project award. Review tender performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The Person We are interested in speaking with driven and commercially astute professionals who possess a strong background in estimating within a contracting environment. Essential Requirements Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years' post-graduate experience as an Estimator, Civil Estimator or Quantity Surveyor within a construction or civil engineering contractor environment. Strong understanding of estimating principles, tendering processes and commercial management. Experience interpreting technical drawings, specifications and construction programmes. Excellent analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills. Strong negotiation and communication abilities. Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency in AutoCAD and quantity take-off software. Experience using estimating software packages such as Conquest or similar. Strong Microsoft Office skills. Experience with Microsoft Project would be advantageous. Full UK Driving Licence. Right to work in the UK. Civil engineering project experience would be highly desirable.
