We are seeking a highly capable Mid‑Senior Level CADCAM CNC Programmer to join our advanced manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will bring strong multi‑axis machining expertise, excellent CADCAM proficiency, and a proven ability to enhance productivity through optimised programming and intelligent fixture design.
You will be responsible for programming complex 4‑ and 5‑axis components, supporting NPI activities, mentoring team members, and playing a key role in improving machining processes and technical capability across the business.
Key Responsibilities
CADCAM Programming & Machining
- Develop high‑quality CNC programs and manufacturing processes using CADCAM tools (e.g., CATIA V5, Hypermill) for complex 4‑ and 5‑axis components.
- Ensure all programs meet required cycle times, quality standards, and delivery expectations.
- Conduct your own prove‑outs and take full ownership of the process until formal handover to Production.
- Produce efficient machining strategies, optimised toolpaths, and robust fixture solutions in collaboration with the wider engineering team.
Technical Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide coaching, guidance, and hands‑on training to junior programmers and CNC operators.
- Share best practices and contribute to raising programming standards across the department.
- Lead by example in technical problem‑solving, innovation, and continuous improvement activities.
Process & Productivity Improvement
- Ensure all programming activities comply with internal manufacturing standards, processes, and NPI procedures.
- Continuously identify and implement opportunities for productivity improvement through better programming, tooling advancements, and innovative manufacturing techniques.
- Work closely with tooling suppliers to select and deploy best‑in‑class tooling solutions.
Project Ownership & Customer Interface
- Take responsibility for customer projects, from initial programming through to successful prove‑out and production readiness.
- Provide clear and timely progress updates to managers, customers, and cross‑functional teams.
- Support Engineering and Production with technical expertise during NPI phases and production scale‑up.
Software, Systems & Documentation
- Support the maintenance and ongoing development of the organisation’s CADCAM software and digital engineering tools.
- Create and maintain machining standards, programming procedures, and engineering documentation for use across the team.
- Champion consistent application of company machining methodologies and NPI processes.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience gained through a recognised manufacturing apprenticeship or an engineering degree.
- Proficiency in any recognised CADCAM package and willingness to develop skills on new software platforms.
- Strong technical background in CNC machining, toolpath optimisation, and fixture/workholding design.
- Demonstrated success in prove‑outs, cycle time optimisation, and improving machining productivity.
- Ability to work within structured manufacturing systems, including PES, NPI, or equivalent procedures.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to instruct, mentor, and guide others effectively.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5 or Hypermill for 5‑axis machining.
- Experience supporting or leading customer‑facing technical projects.
- Background in aerospace, defence, precision engineering, or other high‑tolerance environments.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methods such as Lean or Six Sigma.
- Ability to create team‑wide machining standards, programming guidelines, or process documentation.
Personal Attributes
- Highly self‑sufficient, driven, and proactive.
- Strong attention to detail with the “right‑first‑time” approach.
- Collaborative mindset with a passion for sharing knowledge and developing others.
- Innovative and analytical thinker with excellent engineering intuition.
