The Advanced Nurse Specialist ensures accurate patient documentation and effective communication with the multidisciplinary team. They oversee junior colleagues\’ development, contribute to an effective learning environment, and lead on strategic and organisational education and service development.

The role provides leadership within the 7-day community service and urgent response service, demonstrates advanced holistic assessment skills, enables sensitive discussions with patients and families, acts as a specialist resource for the MDT, and supervises cluster-based working.

Main duties of the job

We’re looking for a highly experienced professional who can demonstrate:

  1. 1st Level Registration, evidence of personal and professional development, and experience of working at senior Band 7 or equivalent.
  2. Significant experience in specialist palliative care, leadership and change management, and working in the community.
  3. Experienced nonmedical prescriber, with clinical skills qualification, or expectation to achieve
  4. Advanced Communications Skills course, and mentorship or teaching experience.
  5. Ability to play an active role in education, work autonomously and as part of a team, and evaluate research to ensure evidence-based practice.
  6. Strong understanding of clinical governance, ability to establish good working relationships, lead change management, and work with a wide range of community stakeholders.
  7. Demonstrates understanding of current issues in specialist palliative care community nursing.

Job responsibilities

The Advanced Nurse Specialist will act as a senior clinical decision maker, providing advice and support to the Clinical Nurse Specialists and other Healthcare professionals in relation to complex situations.

They will:

  • provide clinical, operational and strategic leadership to the community specialist palliative care team.
  • work across organisational boundaries providing advice and face to face clinical assessment over 7 days. This will include patients in Salford Royal Hospital at weekends and on Bank Holidays.
  • demonstrate and develop the skills required to practice at an advanced level including prescribing and clinical examination skills.

Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Evidence of personal and professional development
  • Experience of working at senior Band 7 or equivalent
  • Significant experience of working and studying in specialist palliative care
