Solicitor - Adult Social Care & Court of Protection
Salary: Up to Β£51,000 DOE
Location: Ebbw Vale / Agile & Home Working
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Adult social care law. Meaningful work. Proper flexibility.
Moxie People are working with a South Wales local authority to find a Solicitor specialising in Adult Social Care and Court of Protection work to join their in-house Legal & Corporate Compliance team.
This is an opportunity to use your legal expertise on work that has a very real impact on individuals, families and communities.
You'll predominantly provide legal support to the Council's Adult Social Services team, advising on complex adult care matters and undertaking associated litigation. The role also offers exposure to the wider work of an in-house local authority legal team.
And importantly, you don't necessarily need to already work for a council.
If you're a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with strong Adult Social Care and/or Court of Protection experience, we'd be interested in talking.
What will the role involve?
The core of the position is providing a high-quality professional legal service to Adult Social Services, including:
- Advising on Adult Social Care and Court of Protection matters
- Providing legal advice and support to the Adult Services team
- Managing and undertaking relevant litigation
- Providing clear, practical legal advice to internal stakeholders
- Managing a varied caseload and making sound, reasoned legal decisions
- Building strong relationships with colleagues, client departments and external stakeholders
- Occasionally supporting other areas of the Council's legal service where required
The Council's brief specifically identifies supporting, advising and undertaking litigation on behalf of the Adult Team as a central responsibility.
What are we looking for?
You'll need to be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate, alongside relevant Adult Care / Court of Protection experience.
Previous local authority experience would certainly be useful, but it isn't essential.
That means this could be a great move for someone currently working within private practice, another public body or a related organisation who wants to move in-house and use their legal expertise in a genuinely purpose-led environment.
You'll also bring:
- Confidence handling complex and sensitive legal matters
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
- The ability to provide pragmatic, commercially aware legal advice
- Good organisation and caseload-management skills
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support the wider legal team
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes, as required by the person specification
Why consider it?
Alongside a salary of up to Β£51,000 depending on experience, this is a chance to move into a role offering agile/home working, interesting specialist legal work and the opportunity to make a tangible difference through the services you support.
For someone considering their first move into local government, it could also provide valuable exposure to a broader public-sector legal environment without requiring previous council experience from day one.
