We are looking for a qualified and experienced Professional Support Lawyer to join our dynamic legal operations team, playing a dual role that combines the provision of independent legal advice (ILA) to clients together with technical legal support for our operations teams. This is a pivotal position supporting both client outcomes and internal excellence, especially in the context of conveyancing and remortgage transactions. Working from our Cardiff office (with hybrid flexibility), you will provide impartial legal advice to directors and individuals involved in company mortgages, third-party guarantees, and joint borrower arrangements. You will also advise internal legal professionals on complex or technical matters, support knowledge management initiatives, and help maintain the high standards of the legal operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver independent legal advice to clients in conveyancing, remortgage, and corporate mortgage transactions, ensuring understanding and compliance.
- Advise directors, joint borrowers, and guarantors on the implications of signing key documents such as mortgage deeds and loan agreements.
- Provide clear, accessible explanations of complex legal arrangements and mitigate risks through accurate documentation.
- Maintain thorough records of all advice provided, including signed letters and detailed meeting notes.
- Act as a technical resource for the legal team, answering complex legal queries and advising on more complex conveyancing or re-mortgage matters.
- Support continuous improvement of internal processes and the legal service delivery model.
- Keep abreast of legal developments in conveyancing, financial services, and company law, and ensure internal compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Assist in designing and delivering training for internal staff on emerging issues or updates in law and procedure.
- Work closely with conveyancing and remortgage teams to ensure a consistent and high-quality service experience for clients.
- Monitor risk indicators and escalate concerns where appropriate to mitigate potential liabilities.
- Report regularly to the Senior Operations Manager regarding caseloads, key risks, client feedback, and compliance with internal SLAs and KPIs.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with a current practising certificate.
- Significant experience in residential conveyancing, remortgages, or secured lending.
- Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements around ILA, particularly in corporate and personal mortgage scenarios.
- Excellent ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and accessibly to clients.
- Proven experience providing legal support or training to colleagues in a professional environment.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and a proactive approach to legal risk management.
- Comfortable with technology, digital documentation, and performance tracking.
- Based in or willing to commute to Cardiff, with flexibility for hybrid/remote working.
