Director of Product Engineering – Python, AI, ML
London Hybrid (3 days in-office)
To lead the engineering behind brand new AI products within the commercial insurance space.
After joining you will be the integral part in building AI platforms that tackle some of the hardest problems within the insurance industry.
This role is to scale a product engineering organization that delivers transformative AI capabilities to industries crying out for innovation.
Responsibilities
- Architect and contribute code to cutting-edge AI systems
- Establish technical excellence standards and foundational systems
- Drive architectural decisions that position the platform ahead of the market
- Scale engineering across multiple AI product lines
- Build and lead world-class engineering teams
- Partner with product leaders to translate ambitious AI capabilities into real-world impact
- Create engineering culture and processes that enable rapid innovation
- Balance innovation with sustainable growth and platform evolution
Experience & Leadership
- 15+ years in software engineering, 5+ years leading technical teams
- Hands-on coding ability—must contribute as a full-time engineer initially
- Proven track record of shipping complex products from concept to scale
- Experience scaling engineering orgs from 10 to 100+ engineers
- Strong technical depth and business acumen
- Startup experience preferred with scaling from Series A to growth stage
Technical Skills
- Experience with AI/ML systems, document processing, or workflow engines
- Cloud platforms, CI/CD, automated testing
