Love turning technical solutions into winning bids? Join a long-established engineering business delivering automation, control and digital transformation in highly regulated industries. With 50+ years of success across energy, nuclear and advanced manufacturing, the team is growing and needs a Proposals Engineer to shape standout technical and commercial submissions for major UK and international projects.

You’ll work closely with engineering, supply chain and sales to understand requirements, define the right solution, build robust estimates and produce clear, persuasive proposals. Not just pricing from a spreadsheet. You’ll influence bid strategy, challenge assumptions and help create submissions that stand out on quality, clarity and value.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Translate customer requirements into a clear, cost-effective technical solution
  • Produce conceptual designs for control systems (PLC/SCADA), MCCs, networks, servers and infrastructure
  • Write high-quality tenders: technical narrative, clarifications/exclusions, delivery approach and commercials
  • Build accurate estimates (materials, engineering hours and delivery requirements)
  • Coordinate inputs, run tender reviews/risk assessments and support sales through bid stage
  • Manage multiple bids at once, keeping stakeholders aligned and progress visible

What we’re looking for:

  • Background in electrical, control, automation or safety systems engineering
  • Good grasp of the project lifecycle from concept to delivery
  • Functional safety knowledge (SIL, ESD, F&G) and regulated environments
  • Comfortable specifying/reviewing PLC hardware, control panels, networks and architecture
  • Able to interpret specifications, spot scope/compliance gaps and manage risk
  • Strong technical writing and commercial awareness (estimating/BOMs a plus) + relevant degree/HND/equivalent

What’s on offer:

  • Up to £45,000 salary + enhanced pension
  • Hybrid working with flexible hours (including Flexi Fridays)
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (buy/sell option)
  • Private medical, life assurance and wellbeing/healthcare support
  • Professional membership support
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies

Join a business known for technical excellence, long-term stability and genuinely interesting work across critical industries.
