They’re looking for a Principal Controls Systems Engineer to take ownership of major projects, leading the design, development and integration of advanced control systems from concept through to commissioning and final delivery. This is a true leadership role. You’ll be the technical authority across projects, driving quality, performance and compliance while mentoring engineering teams, managing client relationships, and ensuring successful delivery across complex programmes. What you’ll be doing:
- Leading the design, review and approval of complex system architectures, specifications and technical solutions
- Managing full system integration, compatibility, performance and compliance across projects
- Taking ownership of system testing, validation, commissioning and final project closeout
- Leading technical discussions and resolving complex engineering challenges across multidisciplinary teams
- Approving technical documentation including design specs, test plans, operator manuals and quality documentation
- Supporting and approving technical input during the bidding process including estimating project time and resource requirements
- Managing client relationships, leading project meetings and acting as the senior technical point of contact
- Providing leadership, coaching and mentorship to engineering teams while supporting development and continuous improvement
- Managing project budgets, timesheets, resource allocation and reporting across delivery
- Ensuring compliance with company quality systems, client standards and international engineering standards
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in systems engineering, hardware engineering or electrical design
- Strong background in control systems, automation and system integration within highly regulated industries
- Experience using AutoCAD Electrical, SCADA packages, PLC platforms and HMI systems
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, methodologies and project lifecycle delivery
- Experience with software development and hardware integration
- Knowledge of project management, cost control and client management
- Strong understanding of quality management systems, processes and procedures
- Experience working directly on client sites
- A confident technical leader who can mentor teams and manage stakeholder relationships effectively
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
- Commercial awareness with the ability to support technical bidding and project estimation
