MoveATech is partnering with a well-established UK based automation and control systems specialist to recruit a Controls Engineer. This is a technically strong, hands-on role delivering bespoke automation solutions across a wide range of industrial environments. You will join a highly capable engineering team delivering projects from concept through to commissioning, working on modern Siemens based control systems, safety critical applications and complex machine and conveyor solutions. The role offers hybrid working, long term stability, and the opportunity to take technical ownership of projects while remaining close to the engineering.

The Role

As a Controls Engineer, you will take responsibility for the full controls lifecycle. From initial design and software development through FAT, site commissioning and final handover. You will be trusted to make sound engineering decisions, mentor others when required, and act as a technical escalation point for projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing PLC software primarily using Siemens TIA Portal on S7 1200 and S7 1500 platforms
  • Developing structured, readable and robust code using Ladder Logic, SCL and STL
  • Producing and configuring Siemens HMI applications using Comfort and Unified panels
  • Delivering functional safety related software in line with BS EN 13849, including F systems and Profisafe
  • Configuring and commissioning drives, predominantly Siemens G120, including STO integration
  • Working with industrial communications including Profinet, Profisafe, Profibus and Ethernet IP
  • Producing and reviewing technical documentation including FDS, SDS, FAT and SAT documentation
  • Testing, validating and signing off software against URS and project specifications
  • Leading or supporting FAT and SAT activities to ensure right first time delivery
  • Commissioning automation systems onsite across the UK, approximately 50 percent of the role
  • Providing technical support to service and project teams as required
  • Supporting continuous improvement of internal engineering standards and reusable libraries
  • Acting as a technical escalation point for project managers and engineering teams

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong, demonstrable experience with Siemens TIA Portal is essential
  • Experience with Allen Bradley Studio 5000 is beneficial but not essential
  • A solid understanding of machine control, conveyor systems and sequential automation
  • Strong knowledge of functional safety standards and safety PLC systems
  • Comfortable working independently and making technical decisions
  • Able to communicate clearly with engineers, project managers and customers
  • Experience leading or supervising small engineering teams during commissioning is advantageous

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Level 4 qualification or higher in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • Full UK right to work
  • Full UK driving licence with no more than three penalty points
  • Strong written and verbal technical English

What’s On Offer:

  • Salary between £45,000 and £55,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working model
  • Paid travel and accommodation for site work
  • Exposure to technically challenging and varied automation projects
  • A business that values engineering quality, safety and long term relationships
