Project Engineer - Automation Systems

About the role
Join a technically driven engineering business delivering robotic automation and assembly systems for automotive and general manufacturing customers. Based primarily at their Bedfordshire facility, with periodic UK travel, you will lead projects from concept and design through build, installation, commissioning and customer handover.
Key responsibilities
- Own project timing, budgets, technical delivery, change control and reporting.
- Act as the main customer contact and coordinate engineering, controls, manufacturing, installation, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Manage commercial obligations, procurement, forecasting, cost control and margin protection.
- Oversee FAT, SAT, commissioning, customer buy-off and handover.
- Identify and mitigate project risks while ensuring quality, regulatory and HSE compliance.
About you
- Proven experience delivering automation, automotive tooling projects.
- Sound understanding of automation, robotics, tooling and assembly processes; mechanical knowledge is advantageous.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Strong commercial, contract, budget and change-control capability.
- Confident communicator and organised problem-solver, able to manage multiple workstreams under pressure.
- Engineering qualification, time-served apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable
- Knowledge of automotive OEM standards and processes.
- Experience of integration, commissioning or project management in automotive or general industry.
- HNC or above in engineering, project management or a related technical field
