Move the Masses is a York based charity that runs a one‑to‑one walking programme called Move Mates. People who are unable to go for a walk by themselves due to mental or physical health are paired with a volunteer. The pair meet once a week for a walk.

As a trustee you will bring new ideas and skills to the table to strengthen the foundations of the charity and grow it. The trustee is a valuable and rewarding role, and the impact the charity makes on our community is easy to see.

We value the input and experience of all volunteers and we are open to a wide range of skills. If you have enthusiasm we would love to speak with you. We would be particularly interested in prospective trustees who have experience of HR, leadership, funding and knowledge of the charity sector and governance.

As a trustee you’ll have an essential role in contributing towards the future direction of Move the Masses and making a real difference to the lives of the local community to improve physical and mental health and tackle social isolation. The charity has undergone a period of transition to focus solely on York based pairings and is looking to take steps to grow in a sustainable way. We have a dedicated group of volunteers and a small staff team who are passionate about the benefits of Move Mates. We are looking for trustees with a wide range of expertise and experience to complement our current trustees. The most important thing we are looking for is people who are passionate about movement, health and community cohesion. Due to our small staff team there is the opportunity to be more hands on in the running of Move Mates should you wish.
