About Move On: Move On is an established and successful Edinburgh and Glasgow-based charity supporting people to achieve personal goals and make positive lasting change in their lives. We are seeking to appoint a Development Worker with proven skills and experience in one of our social enterprises based in Edinburgh, Move On Wood Recycling.
About Move On Wood Recycling (MOWR): MOWR is a social enterprise dedicated to creating positive environmental and social impact. We operate circular services across multiple sectors in Edinburgh and The Lothians; waste wood collections, reclaimed timber sales, upcycled bespoke furniture, and employability training and volunteering opportunities for local and young people in our workshop.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the enterprise operates to a high standard and in a manner that is consistent with the values and purpose of Move On.
- Work closely with the MOWR Operational Manager and other colleagues.
- Attend team meetings and wider Move On meetings, where required.
- Build wooden furniture products and be competent with hand tools and machinery.
- Respond efficiently and creatively to customers' bespoke furniture ideas.
- Ensure furniture orders are built and completed in a timely manner.
- Process used wood ready for resale.
- Ensure that health and safety standards are established, implemented, and maintained.
Waste Wood Collections:
- Support collection schedule driving our 3.5 tonne caged pick-up truck to numerous locations across Edinburgh and The Lothians.
- Communicate with site managers and customers.
- Handle/load timber on and off vans.
- Serve and communicate effectively with customers in our timber shop.
- Answer call and email queries regarding products, orders, and bespoke furniture projects.
Supervision:
- Co-ordinate supervision of volunteers and young people in the wood workshop.
- Ensure all payments relating to training allowances and lunch expenses are recorded accurately and within timescales.
- Operate a trauma-informed approach to young people and volunteers working alongside you in the workshop.
