Health and Safety Senior Business Partner

As our Health and Safety Senior Business Partner, in this pivotal role, you\’ll partner with leadership teams across all our business units to drive continuous improvement in health, safety, and wellbeing culture, systems, and performance. You’ll take ownership of our Group Health & Safety strategy—embedding a strong safety culture, building capability across all levels, and enabling our leaders to confidently lead health and safety in their areas. You’ll manage our ACC Accredited Employer Programme (AEP), drive our safety culture, and provide best-practice guidance across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Shape and execute our group-wide H&S strategy and frameworks.
  • Drive business-wide safety culture transformation, embedding ownership and accountability at all levels.
  • Help foster a strong safety culture that challenges the status quo and promotes innovation in health and safety practices.

Capability Building & Engagement

  • Partner with business unit leaders to influence safe behaviors, build capability, and ensure safety leadership.
  • Lead targeted upskilling of operational leaders to build confidence and capability in safety leadership.
  • Empower and coach site health and safety reps and committees.
  • Provide expert, trusted advice and guidance to managers on H&S matters.

H&S Compliance Management

  • Manage the ACC Accredited Employer Programme (AEP), ensuring compliance and continuous improvement in injury management and safety functions.
  • Monitor compliance with HSWA and other relevant regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and manage business-wide risks.
  • Oversee emergency response and business continuity planning.
  • Maintain and enhance our health and safety management system through audits and continuous improvement.

Technical Oversight

  • Act as a key escalation point for critical incident investigations, ensuring robust root-cause analysis using methodologies like ICAM.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight for investigations, audits, and improvement programs.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on safety performance metrics to inform strategic decisions.
  • Design and deliver training, SOPs, policies, and reports that support safe work practices.
  • Stay up to date on industry best practices and legislative changes.

About You

This opportunity calls for a committed and passionate health, safety & wellbeing professional, who is comfortable handling multiple priorities, dealing with concepts and complexities without getting caught up in excessive detail, and can build positive relationships as a trusted adviser to senior leaders.

Proven experience in a senior health and safety role within high-risk industries (e.g., logistics, manufacturing, construction), across multiple sites. Experience working in an operational environment will be highly valuable.

Strong understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, risk management, legislative compliance, and best practices.

NEBOSH, Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent (preferred).

Experience managing the ACC Accredited Employer Programme (AEP) or ISO 45001.

Confident communicator with the ability to influence senior leaders through to frontline teams.

Comfortable translating legislation and safety data into relatable content for various audiences.

Proactive, self-managing, solutions-focused approach.

Familiar with H&S systems, IT, and data-driven reporting.

A pragmatic approach that genuinely improves safety outcomes, considering the wider business context.

Strong desire to understand the business and tailor health and safety functions to support operational success.
