Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Patient assessment and care planning: Performing comprehensive assessments on patients, including mental status evaluations, vital signs, and physical health needs, and contributing to individualized care plans based on the patient's needs.
- Medication administration: Accurately administering prescribed medications, including psychotropic medications, and monitoring for side effects.
- Behavioral observation and documentation: Observing and documenting patient behavior, including changes in mood, affect, and behavior patterns, and reporting any concerning behaviors to the registered nurse.
- Therapeutic communication: Engaging in therapeutic communication with patients, actively listening, providing emotional support, and assisting with coping mechanisms.

Mountain Youth Academy is centrally located near Johnson City, TN, Boone, NC, and Abingdon, VA. We are a 120-bed residential treatment facility and assist in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health issues for our young adolescent patients. An LPN working in a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to psychiatric patients under the supervision of a registered nurse, including medication administration, monitoring vital signs, documenting patient behavior, assisting with daily living activities, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the best possible care for clients within a therapeutic environment; focusing on building trust and maintaining a safe and supportive atmosphere for patients.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Nursing program
- Vocational/Technical School Graduate
- Valid licensed LPN (or license eligible) in the State of Tennessee
- Current BLS certification (upon hire and kept current)
- Preferred experience with children/adolescents
- Preferred experience working in a psychiatric residential setting
- Exceptional ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- Strong Interpersonal and organization skills.
