Main duties of the job
Some key responsibilities include:
- Lead the development and implementation of innovative strategies to improve patient safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and accountability within the team and the wider organisation.
- Develop and deliver training resources in collaboration with operational teams to enhance patient safety knowledge and practice.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team, CQC Nominated Individual, and National SARC Director to:
- Coordinate CQC inspections, assessments, or visits, addressing findings and implementing improvements.
- Respond to CQC information requests.
- Develop and implement CQC compliance tools.
- Lead and oversee the organisations compliance with UKAS accreditation standards, specifically ISO 15189, ensuring policies and procedures meet the required criteria by adhering and supporting the maintenance of ISO 15189 and the FSR Code of Practice compliance including post accreditation.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team, CQC Nominated Individual, and National SARC Director to:
- Coordinate internal audits and manage external UKAS (FSR) ISO 15189 inspections, assessments, or visits, addressing findings and implementing improvements.
- Respond to UKAS (FSR) information requests.
- Develop and implement UKAS (FSR) compliance tools.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CQC regulations and UKAS accreditation requirement.

Job responsibilities
The Head of Quality and Governance provides leadership and strategic direction for the Quality and Governance in the organisation (SARC, Custody or any new services). This role ensures the implementation and coordination of functions related to patient safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and accreditation standards. The post holder works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring services are safe, effective, and aligned with best practices. Additionally, the role includes oversight of compliance with regulatory bodies such as the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and accreditation standards, including UKAS ISO 15189 in the development and implementation of ISO 15189 and the FSR Code of Practice leading up to accreditation.
