We are looking for a Development Manager, with a demonstrable track record of securing planning for complex Central London mixed-use developments to shape our schemes, build relationships with joint venture partners and coordinate consultant teams to drive our schemes forward.
You will help shape our schemes from the ground up, build brilliant relationships with joint venture partners, and steer consultant teams as we push our Zone 1–3 London projects forward. We are expanding because our healthy land pipeline and growing reputation means we are optimistic about the future. When you get here, you will be becoming part of a relentless culture where we are constantly reviewing, refining, sharing and getting better.
Bringing with you high-rise residential development experience (London ideally), confidence with cashflows and appraisals, and a hands-on mindset. You will be nimble, quick to learn, and great with people. We move at pace because we are passionate about doing things better - and differently - in a tight-knit team of 15+ people who really care about the work and each other. The team is led by Marcus Bate, our Partnerships and Communities Director - and that title pretty much sums up how we approach development: collaboratively, and always with community front of mind.
Ours is a high-performance culture. High performance in this role means delivering fantastic outcomes for our JV partners so they enjoy working with us and want to do it again. You will play a key role in making that happen, building strong relationships with local authorities and Registered Provider stakeholders, and keeping a finger on the pulse through regular feedback. You will be involved right at the front end - spotting land opportunities, securing great planning consents, and working hand-in-hand with our construction teams. Our model is fully integrated and highly collaborative, so if you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, working closely with others, and building real, lasting relationships, you will thrive here.
This is a culture where you will be giving and getting feedback from day one, because we think it is the fastest way to learn and to build trust. We want to be challenged by you, too – we hate unnecessary hierarchy and "my way or the highway" has no place here. So, if shaping London’s communities, in partnership, appeals to you and you can see yourself growing in an environment where you will love the work and love who you are becoming as you do it - apply now.
What we do: We have worked in partnership for 31 years to create outstanding places in London. We are growing, with our construction turnover doubling, and with a pipeline of new projects where we are raring to get started and make a difference.
Why we are here: We are here to pursue better, differently.
- Better: One of The Sunday Times' "100 Best Small Companies to Work For" for over a decade, winner of multiple Pride In The Job and WhatHouse awards for our people and the quality of our homes, and proud to have the nation’s best site in our ranks (winning the highest possible marks across the Considerate Constructors Scheme's five areas – the first site ever to do so in 22 years of the CCS).
- Differently: Our culture is unusual. Different means more transparent with information. More direct with feedback that helps us all grow. More rigorous about setting goals, then giving more freedom to go and achieve them. It is definitely not for everyone. We do not hire know-it-alls, we hire "learn-it-alls". As our CEO, Killian, says: "We work hard to find people who thrive on context and responsibility, rather than rules and procedures. We then work like owner managers, not a leader and a load of helpers."
Benefits: Private medical insurance for you through Vitality (including discounts on spa breaks, cinema tickets and your food shopping, free Starbucks, 50% off Virgin Active Membership and more). Income Protection Insurance to help you cope financially if you are unable to work due to illness or injury, Life Assurance equivalent to four times your salary, 25 days annual leave & Bank Holidays, enhanced maternity and paternity leave and workplace nursery salary sacrifice, allowing you to save tax and NI on monthly nursery fees. We think the best benefit of being here is the learning culture and the ability to make a real difference – we dislike hierarchy and politics, and "not my job" isn’t in our vernacular. Which means if you really care about raising the bar and really want to feel connected to the end product, as opposed to like a cog in a big machine, this could be the place for you to grow your career.
