Job Description
Global engineering company that operates across several sectors including energy, infrastructure, mining and nuclear requires a Senior Legal Counsel focusing on claims and litigation. Projects are often large and significant projects with game-changing impacts to the countries where such projects are built.

The key focus of the role will be to plan the legal strategy and make legal recommendations with respect to often highly complex and large legal disputes. Additionally, you will advise on legal aspects and implications, manage investigations and disputes, negotiate agreements, and plan legal strategy. Your expertise, collaboration, and high ethical standards will ensure business and compliance issues are addressed and team goals are met.

Key responsibilities
\n
- Acts as an advisor to one or more business lines, large projects and/or functions on a range of legal issues with the main focus being on the efficient resolution of disputes, both up and downstream.

- Acts as an advisor to a one or more business lines, large projects and/or functions on a range of legal issues. Makes legal determinations on matters of substantial importance to the business

- Instructs and manages external counsel and other expert consultant advisers in the context of disputes and litigation.
\n
- Manages legal budgets efficiently.
\n
- Makes legal determinations and advises on matters of substantial importance to the business.
\n
- Advises on the legal aspects and implications of regulations or laws affecting the organization, prospects, and projects.
\n
- Develops recommendations for decisions having an important bearing on the organization's business, including in respect of the efficient management of disputes (both upstream and downstream), and assisting in the development of internal policy approval requests.

- Deals with company officers and management and confers or negotiates regularly with senior lawyers and officials in other companies or in government agencies on various aspects of the work.

- Assists and advises senior company officers (and other functions) in respect of potential and actual disputes arising on projects.
\n
- Negotiates complex settlement agreements and contract amendments.
\n
- Manages claims, disputes, litigation/arbitration and investigations.
\n
- Conducts training in respect of sound change management, claims and commercial management.
\n
- Often first chair in a negotiation in respect of disputes.
