Broad ranging and hands-on role at a leading provider of tertiary education in London that is privately owned with a stellar international reputation. Reporting to the Director of Legal Services, you will undertake a broad ranging role with the drafting and negotiating of commercial contracts at the core of the role.
Responsible for:
- Delivering impactful, proactive, commercial and pragmatic legal advice to all departments at the University, including the Executive Board and Board of Directors.
- Building and maintaining regular contact with the Executive Team and other Senior Managers to ensure good working relationships are upheld and to support risk management.
- Leading on major projects, commercial matters and disputes with a focus on those with the highest value or strategic importance to the University.
- Identifying legal risks and their implications on the University and ensuring that senior management are kept informed.
Specific Responsibilities:
Client Service
- Delivering support and high-quality advice to the University in relation to the most strategically important and high value legal issues and influencing decision making where appropriate.
- Work proactively and develop productive working relationships with all University departments across the business including with senior management.
- Ensuring deadlines are met and taking interventions where necessary.
Achieving Results
- Contracts - draft, structure, negotiate and advise on a variety of the most complex and high value commercial, supply, partnership, collaboration and procurement contracts.
- Litigation – advise on highly contentious and high risk matters and instruct/manage external Counsel as appropriate.
- Corporate Governance – work on all areas of corporate governance as required.
- Regulations, policies and processes – provide legal input into appropriate governance, regulatory and compliance policies and processes.
- Insurance - assist with placement of the Company’s insurance on an annual or otherwise as needed basis, to ensure adequate coverage of the Company’s risks. Work with insurers to manage claims and potential claims, and litigation relating to the University.
- Training – identify training needs across the University, develop bespoke training materials and deliver training to the Executive Board and other senior managers.
- Legal developments – analyzing and researching complex new developments in the law and legal concepts in order to apply these within the University as appropriate.
- Property – work with external Counsel to support the Estates team where required.
