Overview of the role

We are currently seeking a Technical Principal / Project Principal (Electrical) to join our Buildings unit. The successful candidate will lead a technical team and act as the key client interface to project sponsors, clients and key stakeholders. As well as having responsibility for the performance of the remote support team you may also be required to coordinate and mentor junior staff.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Responsibility for winning work and enhancing existing client relationships
  • Identify opportunities, manage them, and deliver sound commercial and technical proposals ensuring compliance with Mott MacDonald’s Group Policies and Directives
  • Provide technical and project management/supervision for large Built Environment Sector projects
  • Actively engage with multi‑disciplinary teams on all project stages from preliminary design to construction, commissioning and handover to the client
  • Monitoring project performance and ensuring corrective action is taken when required
  • Ensure compliance with our Business Management System
  • Promote safety, ethics, and professional excellence initiatives
  • Drive collaboration with other parts of the Unit, Region and Group in this sector

Candidate specification

  • A Degree level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Hold or be eligible for Chartered Status and membership of a relevant professional organisation
  • Previous commercial management experience with good commercial acumen and effective client facing skills; and able to demonstrate successful commercial outcomes
  • Effective communicator who can influence at all levels
  • Strong knowledge of the design and planning of built environment projects, particularly in the Energy/ Healthcare/Education/Transport/ Industry/Commercial
  • Demonstrated project management ability to run large projects as the main point of client contact
  • Be external facing providing technical and project management advice with business development responsibilities
  • The ability to lead, collaborate, delegate, and develop others
  • Understanding of all engineering disciplines
  • Have excellent report writing, presentation and communication skills with a strong ‘can do’ attitude
