About the Water Consultancy Division
The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges. Our multidisciplinary teams provide advisory services, feasibility studies, design, construction support and site supervision to protect water supplies and the environment.
Overview of the Role
We have a strong track record in providing flood risk services. Our teams have modelled, designed and delivered flood management schemes worldwide, including award‑winning projects such as the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme. We deliver Flood Risk Assessments and are industry‑leading in Nature‑Based Solutions for flood risk management, working alongside Dam Engineers for reservoir flood studies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and check hydraulic models (Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS, ICM) to assist the design of Flood Alleviation Schemes, deliver Flood Risk Assessments and conduct reservoir flood studies.
- Conceptualise and scope hydraulic modelling approaches.
- Produce and review high‑quality reports for clients.
- Undertake and check hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP.
- Mentor and train junior staff in the hydraulic modelling process, from scoping to delivery, guiding them to identify opportunities and risks in programme, consenting, construction, and maintenance.
- Develop project management skills and lead business development by engaging with clients.
Candidate Specification
Essential
- Experience delivering flood risk management studies.
- Experience using hydraulic modelling software.
- Experience using flood modelling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HECRAS or ICM.
- Degree in hydrology, geography, mathematics, civil engineering, or related discipline.
- Good communication and written skills.
- Well organised, able to prioritise workload with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of prioritising health, safety and environmental issues.
Desirable
- Chartered with an appropriate professional body (e.g. ICE, CIWEM, IMA).
- Professional consultancy experience in flood modelling and flood risk management.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS, QGIS and Python.
