About the Energy Unit

The Energy unit delivers engineering and project management services across sectors such as hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewables, and transmission & distribution networks. We support projects from concept and design to construction, operations, decommissioning, and life extension.

About the Role

This position supports our Civil and Structural Team in the UK, working on power plants, HV substations, HVDC Interconnectors, and HV cable projects. We are looking for civil engineers at mid to senior levels with experience in engineering design.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management
  • Proposal Writing
  • Scheme Costings
  • Front End Engineering Design (FEED)
  • Preparation of drawings for planning applications and tender packages
  • Detailed Civil/Structural Design
  • Design Coordination across multidisciplinary teams
  • Preparation of specifications
  • Condition and Structural Assessment of existing structures for reuse

Requirements

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced Structural Engineering Knowledge – deep understanding of load-bearing, material properties, and design codes (e.g., Eurocodes, ASCE).
  • Proficiency in Structural Analysis Software – SAP2000, ETABS, or similar.
  • Experience with BIM technologies and application to project visualization.

Project Management Skills

  • Lead structural engineering projects independently; manage timelines, budgets, and quality.
  • Write proposals and estimate costs accurately.
  • Lead FEED activities related to structural components.

Design Coordination and Collaboration

  • Coordinate work with architects, electrical engineers, and other disciplines.
  • Resolve design conflicts within multidisciplinary teams.

Attention to Detail

  • Prepare detailed drawings for planning applications and tender packages.
  • Assess existing structures for suitability and safety, considering reuse options.

Communication and Leadership

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership mindset – guide junior engineers and collaborate with stakeholders.

Experience

  • Relevant experience in structural engineering.
  • Energy project experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License – not mandatory but advantageous.
