This role is based in the Transport and Mobility Solutions (TMS) team supporting Highway projects for predominantly contractor clients across the UK.
Responsibilities
- A Project Director will be part of the project senior leadership team with primary accountability for the overall technical, financial, and commercial performance of projects.
- Lead Design and Build or contractor-led projects from tendering and contract negotiation to detailed design and construction site services and may work on other highway projects as required.
- Liaise closely with multiple stakeholders, coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams, approve reports and tender documents, oversee cost and schedule, and have accountability for Health & Safety and Quality Assurance aspects of projects.
- Contribute to a technical team and be a key member of the project team, liaising directly with the client, project sponsors, and key stakeholders.
Key duties include:
- Lead highway design and build or contractor-led design projects in a project director or other management role.
- Establish and develop the project team, ensuring overall project success per company directives and contractual arrangements, including NEC.
- Establish tender budgets, monitor budgets throughout delivery, and resolve cost overruns with cost reduction or revenue gain measures.
- Act as principal point of contact with the client’s senior leadership teams for all commercial and contractual aspects.
- Demonstrate understanding of the Designer’s obligations under the CDM Regulations.
- Travel to client sites or alternative offices when required, possibly for extended periods.
Candidate specification
Essential
- Significant experience on highway design and build or contractor-led design projects in a project director or other management role.
- Attained chartership with a recognised engineering or project management institution.
- Experience establishing and leading the project team and driving overall project success under various contractual arrangements, including NEC.
- Experience establishing tender budgets and monitoring budgets throughout delivery.
- Ability to resolve cost overruns and identify cost reduction measures and/or revenue gain.
- Experience acting as the principal point of contact with the client’s senior leadership teams for all commercial and contractual aspects.
- Understanding of the Designer’s obligations under the CDM Regulations.
- Flexibility to travel to client sites or alternative offices as required.
Desirable
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or a related subject).
- Project Management Qualification or working towards such qualification.
- Working knowledge of risk management in project delivery.
- Experience managing projects throughout their lifecycle.
