About the business unit

Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers both project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors. We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients’ key challenges, combining our world‑leading project expertise with unrivalled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services.

Overview of the role

We are looking for a Principal Social Value Consultant to deliver meaningful impact through our projects and help us develop our social advisory offering. You would join our growing social value team, sitting within our Strategic Advisory Portfolio, driving the delivery of social value across our projects and helping us develop our social advisory offering with our procurement and social impact specialists. We are looking for an adaptable, enthusiastic and dynamic individual happy to work across a variety of different sectors, from water to healthcare, to nuclear and transport.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Work with colleagues to embed social value delivery into contracts and project delivery – this includes developing unit, sector, and project specific social value strategies and action plans.
  • Manage and supervise the work of other staff and coach more junior colleagues.
  • Support the development of a social value consultancy offer as part of the Strategic Advisory business.
  • Manage and deliver a range of social value projects across Mott MacDonald’s sectors, to include stakeholder relationship management with clients and project teams.
  • Work closely with bid teams across our business units and sectors to respond to tendering requirements.
  • Drive and feed into the continuous improvement around Mott MacDonald’s social value approach.
  • Support upskilling and capacity building across the UK business, including developing domain knowledge of early career professionals.
  • Be client facing with accountability for one or more key customer relationships and delivery of outputs.
  • A strong understanding of Social Value including the 2023 Procurement Act, Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012, PPN 06/20 and PPN 002.
  • Experience of working within the social value field.
  • Experience of project delivery and management – including budgets, reporting, and working to tight deadlines.
  • Experience in shaping client and community focused solutions.
  • Confidence in liaising with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, presenting, and writing.
  • Strategic thinking, creativity and the ability to adapt to respond to client and stakeholder needs.
  • An ability to build networks and coach others.
  • A proactive attitude towards innovation, leading initiatives and driving change.
  • Experience of developing social value plans and strategies including, but not limited to, actions around skills, education and employment; community engagement; and supply chain diversification.
  • Experience of contributing to bids and winning work.
  • Degree educated or a minimum of level 4 apprenticeship, preferably in Social Sustainability or a related field.
  • Willingness to work towards a related social value professional accreditation such as the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability.
