Overview of the role

We are seeking a Principal – Building Services Public Health Engineer to lead, grow and inspire our multidisciplinary Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) team. This role is ideally based in our London office, with collaboration across our regional teams in Croydon, Brighton and Bristol, alongside opportunities to contribute to national and international projects.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Public Health design for major projects from concept through to detailed design
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with architects and civil engineers
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high-quality service delivery
  • Contribute to business development, including work-winning and bid leadership
  • Champion innovation, sustainability and best practice in engineering design
  • Support senior managers running the commercial and contractual side of projects
  • Work autonomously within a team carrying out building services projects

Essential skills & experience

  • Public Health Engineer with a strong background in Building Services
  • Proven experience delivering projects within the built environment with sustainable solutions
  • Technical expertise in piped systems; drainage and waste; rainwater systems; gas; utilities; fire suppression systems; CWS and DHWS
  • Extensive MEP design experience across concept and detailed design stages
  • Demonstrated ability to lead public health teams and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Leadership of public health elements of one large project or a portfolio of smaller projects
  • Delivery of coordinated MEP 3D design models
  • Track record in building services public health engineering design and specification using relevant industry software (NBS Create, REVIT, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing and presentations
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current building regulations, legislation and standards applicable in building and infrastructure design

Desirable skills & experience

  • CEng registered with membership of a recognised professional institution such as IMechE, CIBSE or international equivalent, and SOPHIE registration in particular
  • Experience in sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, aviation, rail, residential or data centres
  • Knowledge of the London market and broader UK
  • Experience in work-winning and bid support
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools and emerging technologies
  • Expecting to drive profitability of projects, monitoring against budget, reacting and anticipating potential problems and communicating in line with client expectations

  • Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally as required
