Our specialist aviation team is based in London, UK, and delivers major airport planning and development projects globally, working collaboratively with our regional offices. We are seeking a Technical Director who is a specialist in Airport Capacity Analysis. The successful candidate will be recognised in the industry as a technical expert in their specialist field.
Responsibilities
- Technical Excellence
- Lead capacity work on major airport development programmes for significant airport owners and operators.
- Be recognised by clients and the aviation industry as a world‑class technical specialist.
- Train others in the field, nurturing junior team members and supporting their capacity capabilities.
- Progress capacity expertise across all airport facilities and systems, including operational research, data analysis, capacity planning and simulation modelling.
- Optimise airport capacity by leveraging new technologies.
- Business Development
- Seek and pursue new business opportunities to grow airport capacity planning services.
- Build and maintain robust relationships with new and existing airport operator clients, influencing key directors to become preferred consultants.
- Plan and position for upcoming opportunities and prospects, converting them into projects and producing high‑quality proposals that are technically and commercially sound.
- Act as Account Leader / Client Manager for capacity service clients.
- Project Delivery
- Provide technical leadership for capacity and simulation modelling work on major airport planning and development projects.
- Communicate effectively with client organisations and stakeholders, giving confidence in capacity principles.
- Serve as Project Director / Principal, accountable for successful project outcomes and coaching project managers.
- Ensure projects are completed successfully with sound governance, commercial, financial, technical, health, safety, welfare and client benefits as agreed.
- Direct capacity projects to achieve quality deliverables on time and on budget without compromising profit targets.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in airport capacity, including large‑scale development programmes.
- Numerical fluency and the ability to understand complex systems, train junior staff in analysis and optimisation.
- Understanding of simulation modelling tools and techniques; ability to train junior modellers.
- Excellent communication skills across all stakeholder levels.
- Degree in mathematics, operational research, air transport management, aeronautical engineering, airport planning, civil engineering or equivalent.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages valued.
- Willingness to travel regularly to domestic and international clients, and to work overseas on major programmes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and simulation modelling software.
