Principal/Associate Civil Engineers are required to join our busy Infrastructure team to lead a variety of projects across health, defence, regeneration, leisure and other sectors. The role combines managerial and technical responsibilities, promoting a cooperative approach and inspiring teams to deliver projects on quality, budget and timescales. It offers a high degree of autonomy, ownership and opportunities for career progression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage projects and multi‑disciplinary design teams, ensuring high‑quality design outputs.
  • Control task budgets and support the development of staff competencies and career pathways.
  • Support business development activities, creating commercial and technical responses to new opportunities.
  • Promote collaboration across teams and inspire a culture of quality and efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Professional qualification with an appropriate engineering institution (e.g. ICE, CIHT, PW).

Required Experience

  • Early stage optioneering.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design.
  • Experience leading infrastructure schemes through feasibility, concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning and operations.
  • Project management skills covering procurement, requirements, technical assurance, risk and safety.
  • Full awareness of Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations and their application to the design process.

Practical Skills

  • Proven experience managing projects and leading multi‑disciplinary teams from bidding to delivery against contracted cost and programme.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and presentation – confident in client‑facing roles.
  • Experience on UK public‑sector infrastructure projects.
  • Competence to independently check and approve the work of others and knowledge of key design standards and guidance.
  • Experience using digital design tools for production of deliverables, including BIM.
