Overview of the Role
Mott MacDonald’s Environment, Nature, and Consents business seeks an experienced Principal Consultant to lead environmental and sustainability workstreams across a range of sectors and projects worldwide. This UK‑based role can be based in any of our 20+ offices, with a preference for the locations listed above and potential travel within the UK and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead EIA screening and scoping, produce Environmental Statements and other environmental reports.
- Coordinate technical input from multi-disciplinary specialists.
- Manage programmes, resources and finances on environmental projects.
- Undertake business development and proposal writing for environmental services.
- Client liaison and stakeholder engagement.
- Mentor and line‑manage environmental team members.
- Develop an environmental technical specialism, in addition to coordination responsibilities.
Essential Qualifications
- Relevant academic or professional qualifications.
- Chartership through IEMA, IES, CIWEM or equivalent.
- Highly experienced in EIA, SEA, UK environmental planning legislation, ESG, sustainability strategy and appraisal for infrastructure projects.
- Proven client‑facing experience with ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Strong planning, management, budgeting and programme skills.
- Experience leading diverse, multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality environmental and sustainability deliverables.
Desirable Experience
- Bid/tender delivery experience including cost and quality responses.
- Experience on TWAO and/or DCO schemes and in Water, Defence, Energy, marine or rail sectors.
- People management experience and staff development support.
- Confidence delivering environmental and sustainability workshops or training, both online and in person.
