The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design.

The Asset Management And Infrastructure Planning Team is one of five sub-sectors within our Water Utilities Division, which employs around 350 people across the UK. We work in the water sector and with other infrastructure providers both in the UK and internationally in the following workstream areas:
- Technical assurance of statutory regulatory submissions such as annual performance reporting, business cases and business plans, long-term strategic plans, operational performance and deliverables
- Water resource investment planning
- Wastewater and bioreources investment planning
- Strategic asset management and business planning
- Carbon and net zero appraisal and strategic planning
- Integrated systems management
- Data analytics and decision support tools
- Contract’s appraisal (NEC, PPP)
Due to the success of our framework bidding we are looking to grow our investment planning team. As an Asset Management Advisor with a focus on Asset Health you will be supporting our clients (usually UK water companies and regulators) to improve asset datasets and analytical capabilities, make informed investment decisions and build robust, well-evidenced business cases.
Responsibilities include:
- Data analysis, interpretation, and application of robust data infill techniques
- Implementing Asset Health metrics and frameworks for effective monitoring of water and wastewater assets
- Developing asset class strategies that effectively balance short and long-term intervention needs
- Application and benchmarking of asset management good practice frameworks including ISO55001 and AMMA
- Contributing to development and authoring of robust investment business cases and other regulatory submissions
- Collaboration with our wider asset management community delivering Asset Health related inputs in areas including digital solutions, strategic planning and systems mapping
Candidate Specification
Essential:
- Degree qualified in an engineering, environmental or other subject relevant to water asset management
- Chartership achieved through a relevant organisation (ICE, CIWEM or similar), or working at an equivalent level with demonstrable progress towards Chartership
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills. (Knowledge and experience of analytics software desirable)
- Strong knowledge of good practice Asset Management principles
- A good working-knowledge of the UK water regulatory and operational context
- Excellent communication skills; particularly of technical analysis to non-technical audiences
- Excellent collaboration and team working skills
- Experience of monitoring approaches for different asset types and the use of data analytics in asset condition and performance reporting
- Experience of contributing to regulatory planning cycles, investment strategies and investment business cases
- Broad knowledge of and experience with a range of technical disciplines, such as water resource management, drainage and wastewater management, risk and value frameworks or data management and visualisation
- Experience in development and application of Asset Health and resilience assessment
Desirable:
- Asset Management Qualifications (e.g. IAM Certificate)
- Knowledge of investment optimisation tools, criticality or systems modelling
- Project management, client liaison and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience of auditing and assurance
- Commercial awareness and project proposal preparation experience
