About the business unit: We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.
Overview of the role: Mott MacDonald have ambitious plans to grow our road safety services in the UK and internationally. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced road safety industry leader to join as Road Safety Advisory Lead to drive this growth and develop our team. This role can be based out of any one of our UK offices. This is an exciting senior leadership role with the opportunity to shape, develop and grow our Road Safety Team and contribute to achieving a high performing shared enterprise with our partners.
Your focus will be on delivering great work, building a robust and high‐performing team and winning work in your specialist field to grow this portfolio, opening doors to new workstreams and clients. It will be your responsibility to grow our road safety advisory offering, providing services linked to guidance, policy, standards development, research and trials to our clients. You will have the latitude to drive the direction of the advisory team in response to client and industry need, including looking ahead to future horizons and the challenges that new transport trends will bring (e.g. automated vehicles and driverless cars).
Road Safety Advisory Lead role responsibilities:
- Act as Project Technical Lead or Road Safety Discipline Lead on appropriate medium to large scale projects.
- Act as a senior technical leader for our road safety discipline.
- Develop and mentor junior staff in the team, building a robust technical group and giving people clear pathways for their development.
- Provide technical and subject matter input to bids and opportunities to win new work.
- Engage proactively with the Mott MacDonald Highways Practice globally as a subject matter expert.
- Assist the Asset & Advisory Portfolio Lead with selecting and assigning appropriate technical resources to bids and projects.
- Identify recruitment and development needs for the team.
- Lead development of the TMS Road Safety Advisory offering, working with the Asset & Advisory Portfolio Lead to achieve this goal.
- Drive efforts to secure specialist road safety work (e.g. advisory work on the SPaTS3 Framework).
- Support the WIN team with client engagement on road safety subject matter.
- Build your internal Mott MacDonald network globally.
- Maintain a strong external network, participating in industry forums, conferences and acting in Client‐facing roles to demonstrate Mott MacDonald ability to respond to Client challenges.
Candidate specification:
- You should possess an industry‐recognised profile with a strong external UK network.
- Have extensive demonstrable experience in the road safety sector.
- Possess demonstrable experience in client‐facing roles, providing expert technical advice and leadership.
- Possess demonstrable experience leading and growing technical teams.
- Honours degree or greater in a relevant engineering, safety or risk management related subject.
Desirable:
- Professional accreditation, such as Chartered status.
- Industry‐recognised profile internationally.
