Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors. APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, via technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.

Overview of the role

As Head of Health, Safety and Quality you will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Health, Safety and Quality team working across our sectors including Transportation, Social Infrastructure, Environment & Water, Energy & Defence, and Built Environment for both internal and external clients. This is a senior leadership position within the Specialist Advisory Portfolio. We are looking for a team leader with a high level of experience and expertise in Health, Safety and Quality who will bring together the existing Health and Safety and Quality teams and form a coherent team who can work across sectors delivering their own services and integrate to drive opportunity and growth.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop & deliver on strategic direction and strategic growth plan for the Quality Health and Safety Team ensuring tie in with the wider Specialist Advisory Services offering
  • Team Lead of 60+ cross sector Health and Safety and Quality resources; comprising both specialists and multi-discipline team members
  • Day to day resourcing management of team, minimising downtime and ensuring individuals within the team are meeting their career aspirations and following the career development maps
  • Responsible for resourcing and recruitment, ensuring sufficient staff with the right skills are available to deliver current workload and meet the strategy for growth
  • Be actively involved in project delivery
  • Contribute to sub-sector business plans with view on revenue & profit related to Health, Safety and Quality opportunities
  • Lead business development and work winning activities in relation to Health, Safety and Quality.
  • Develop an integrated Health, Safety and Quality offering for both internal and external APD clients
  • Lead the team to deliver their project and programmes of work ensuring that our internal procedures are followed
  • Sponsoring the development of best practice delivery in Quality Health and Safety Management
  • Acting as an ambassador for the business at external forums promoting the excellent work of the team and the Mott Macdonald business as a whole

Candidate specification

  • Engaging and inspiring people leader with demonstrable experience of establishing new teams and structure, setting direction, culture and driving high-performance
  • Sound business acumen and commercial mindset able to look at things holistically with a track record of maximising opportunities in market
  • An effective collaborator and advisor that can position and sell the wider Advisory offering to clients, working closely with APD Sector Portfolios and Specialist Advisory teams
  • Strong client facing skills with the ability to build and manage relationships and maximise business development opportunities at all levels of client organisations
  • Takes accountability for driving successful outcomes for clients with focus and drive to excel clients’ expectations whilst ensuring profitability for Mott MacDonald
  • Ability to operate effectively in a multi-layered matrix consultancy, infrastructure or construction environment through collaboration, influencing, collective decision-making, and common agendas
  • Effective communicator, able to engage and influence at all levels internally and externally within Mott MacDonald and client organisations
  • Degree qualified and Chartered Professional status held with accredited body
