The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald’s regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross‑sector skills across five key sectors: advisory, built environment, energy, transportation, and water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the group in these sectors.

Having secured a number of long-term projects across the Devon and Cornwall area, we are looking for talented individuals who can demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of leading the delivery of large projects in buildings, particularly in the defence sector
  • Lead on the administration of the NEC suite of contracts (or similar) for professional services and contractor commissions as dictated by the projects, addressing performance to ensure contractually successful outcomes
  • Management of multidisciplinary teams
  • Preparation and maintenance of programmes and schedules, including dependencies and resources
  • Management of project risks and issues including generation and maintenance of risk registers and risk reviews
  • Identified and assessed the impact of change
  • Ensured quality management processes for project activities and output

Key Responsibilities And Duties Include:

  • Lead on the formation and management of stakeholder relationships
  • Identifying and monitoring project risks and opportunities
  • Contribute to project governance reviews
  • Management of all commercial, procurement and general project control functions
  • Liaise with the project’s health, safety and wellbeing representative, acting on advice provided to ensure that project and contractor CDM and Health and Safety compliance matters are satisfactorily discharged and adhered to

Candidate Specification:

Essential:
  • Experience of leading the delivery of large projects in infrastructure/construction
  • Demonstrable experience working on the NEC suite of contracts (or similar)
  • Able to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, contractors, stakeholders, colleagues and the supply chain
  • Operate with commercial acumen and knowledge of planning and project controls
  • Good communication skills including writing reports and presenting
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work; this will involve one to two days per week at a live construction site in west Cornwall. Depending upon an applicant's home location this may require one to two nights per week away, and in these circumstances a nearby self-catering property would be provided for the successful candidate
Desirable:
  • Defence sector experience
  • Project management expertise across a range of disciplines, contract types and procurement routes
  • Hold NEC ECC Project Manager Accreditation (NEC 3 or 4)
  • APM PMQ or Full Member (MAPM) or equivalent
  • Experienced in the management of multidisciplinary teams and earned value analysis
  • Ability to operate both autonomously and as part of a larger team
  • Excellent IT skills – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
