Our Energy Unit leads WIN and DO work in all Energy Market and Nuclear Defence market projects, working at the forefront of the energy transition challenge to ensure safe, stable, sustainable energy is available for future generations. Our multidisciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies, through outline and detailed design, to construction support and site supervision.
As a Geotechnical Engineer in our growing Energy Unit geotechnical team, you will have the opportunity to broaden your experience and work with a range of public and private sector clients on some key and major projects across what is a varied and diverse energy market in the UK, Europe and beyond. You will carry out work on energy projects, fulfilling tasks including:
- Ground investigation preparation of scope, specifications, interpretation and verification of ground investigation data and parameters for a ground model to assist in design
- Geotechnical desk studies, preliminary assessments and reviews of existing geotechnical reporting
- Investigation contractor management on site and in the office, including reviewing RAMS and monitoring health and safety compliance
- Preparing geotechnical interpretative and geotechnical design reports
- Geotechnical analysis, with experience in ground modelling and analysis software
- Working with engineers of other disciplines in a team in order to produce integrated geotechnical assessments for overall project delivery
- Assessing geotechnical hazards and risks to projects and communicating appropriate solutions
- Answering technical queries and requests for information and forwarding to relevant designers
- Support to proposals and production of client tender packages
Candidate specification
Essential:
- Degree in civil or geotechnical engineering (or similar)
- Experience in energy developments, and ideally in one of the following sectors: Transmission and Distribution (T&D) networks, Energy generation (renewables, hydro and thermal), Nuclear
- Demonstrable experience in ground investigation site works
- Experience of CDM regulations
- Demonstrable experience in foundation geotechnical design
- Knowledge of Eurocodes, BS Standards and local regulations
- Environmental and sustainability considerations in geotechnical design
- Good communication skills in English
At the outset we would expect some experience in all named areas but, should your application be successful, you will have the opportunity to learn from other team members in the wider geotechnical skills group and to further develop your skills. Any prospective candidate must display a willingness to engage with new challenges as well as the ability to work confidently on tasks for which they have prior experience. Candidates should be able to demonstrate good written communication skills including report writing. The role will also require good communication and people skills.
