About The Business Unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission and distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle, from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we are helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
Overview Of The Role
Owing to continued growth and high demand for our services, we are looking for a Renewables and BESS Portfolio Manager in the UK and Ireland. The Renewables Portfolio Manager is ideally an engineer or other technically educated professional. A dynamic person with entrepreneurial and business management spirit, and willingness to develop and grow our Renewables and BESS business in the UK and Ireland, engaging with clients, winning new projects, securing contracts and creating long-standing relationships.
The Renewables and BESS Portfolio Manager shall have leadership and charisma, a person capable of motivating the team and attracting further staff to join our team. This person shall have good knowledge of the renewables and BESS industry and the market in Ireland and the UK, main stakeholders, potential customers, competitors, etc.
Role
As a Renewables and BESS professional within Mott MacDonald you will provide technical support to a wide variety of stakeholders including developers, investors, contractors, and financing institutions. The role is varied in its nature and will include working on a range of regional and international renewable projects providing:
- Owner's engineering, construction supervision and design services
- Technical advisory and due diligence for lenders, developers and investors
- Concept and FEED design engineering
- Feasibility studies

You will be working within a strong renewables and BESS energy team and with other discipline professionals delivering prestigious projects.
Candidate Specification
Essential
- Established network with developers on renewables and BESS for the UK and Ireland
- A bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, civil, or industrial) or a related field; a master's degree is preferable but not required
- Dynamic person with entrepreneurial and business management spirit, and motivation to develop the renewables and BESS business
- User-level office suite skills, particularly Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and SharePoint
- Extrovert personality eager to engage with clients and partners, win new projects and create long-standing relationships
- Good knowledge of the renewable and BESS energy industry, and in particular the markets in Ireland and the UK
- Leadership and charisma, a person capable of motivating the team and attracting further staff to join our team. Demonstrable understanding of people motivation and situational guidance styles
- Experience in people or portfolio management in a consultancy environment, and in a client-facing role
- Evidence of technical capabilities, self-motivation, ability to use own initiative, and a flexible or problem-solving approach
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary and multicultural engineering environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both verbally and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to explain technical issues to non-engineers, including clients
Desirable
- Demonstrable experience in project management
- Working experience on renewable energy projects, either wind or solar, ideally as Owner's Engineer, otherwise as Technical Advisor or Lenders' Technical Advisor
- Able to express and communicate technical aspects to a non-technical audience
- Ability to produce and review technical reports for clients
- Ability to lead, chair and present at meetings
