Overview of the Role
Our office‑based department provides Civil and Structural expertise across Substation, HVDC Converter Station, Overhead Line, and Cable projects.
We are looking for a Civil/Structural Engineer with a minimum of five to eight years of experience to join our Digital Award‑winning High Voltage (HV) Civil and Structural Team based in Genova, Italy, Madrid, Spain or Belgrade, Serbia.
The role will span a diverse portfolio of work and there will be opportunities for advancement within the team.
Responsibilities
- Design and development functions including FEED, detailed civil/structural design, cable routing design, scheme costing, and preparation of drawing packages for planning applications and tender submissions.
- Project management and proposal writing, including attendance at design and interface meetings with clients and stakeholders.
- Preparation of specifications and detailed civil/structural design outputs.
- Condition and structural assessment of existing structures to determine suitability for reuse.
- Design assurance functions: civil and structural review of designs, providing technical support to clients on project issues, and authorizing commissioning settings and design assurance for Electricity Transmission Assets where authorized.
- Candidate Specifications
- Minimum five to eight years of experience in civil/structural engineering with focus on high‑voltage substations, HVDC converter stations, and cable projects.
- Degree in Civil or Structural engineering; Chartered Engineer or currently applying for chartership.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including report writing; client‑facing experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently on tasks that are novel or require independent decision‑making.
- Prepared to undertake leadership responsibilities and assist in further development of the team.
- Detailed knowledge of construction health and safety regulations and at least a working understanding of transmission network operator construction practices.
- Experience in civil/structural engineering applied to converter stations, including awareness of process, equipment layout, and considerations such as RFI and fire protection, is advantageous.
