Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management, and development consultancy with over 20,000 employees across more than 50 countries and 140+ offices. We work across incredible global industries, delivering exciting work that is defining our future and making an important societal impact in the communities we serve. Our people power our performance – we succeed when they do. With countless opportunities to collaborate, learn, and grow, the possibilities for excellence are as varied as every individual.

About the business unit: We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

Overview of the role: Our exciting new role in the Aviation Advisory and Data Analytics/Forecasting team will mean that our new employee can demonstrate an ability to conduct forecasting, airport capacity optimisation and analysis alongside responsibilities such as delivery of often complex multi-disciplinary projects and their stakeholders. In addition there will be the opportunity for the right candidate to manage some tasks pertaining to larger programs of work. You’ll also be delivering capacity analysis projects, modelling and detailing facility requirements and level of service outcomes, building and using airport simulation modelling tools and techniques whilst using your understanding of aviation market data sources to identify their respective uses and suitability for internal and external use.

As part of your role, you are likely to get involved with the following tasks:

  • Engaging with aviation clients, demonstrating strong knowledge assimilation and applying this to project assignments
  • Writing high quality technical and market related reports and proposals and presenting project material to colleagues and clients
  • Provide oversight and support to Aviation Analysts in their development of Analytical projects for airports in the UK and around the world
  • Further develop in-house built Forecasting and Capacity Optimisation Tools
  • Manage internal benchmarking databases across the aviation community to best serve our projects by facilitating users to access pertinent information
  • Oversee possible future additional junior staff and mentor their development in best practice forecasting and data analytics
  • Develop best practice user guides on all the analytical concepts and projects in which we work as a team
  • Support the engagement and management of subconsultants
  • Undertake line management duties (where applicable as this may not immediately be the case)
  • Undertake client visits both domestically and abroad in support of project delivery and client relationship development and enhancement
  • Perform high level analytics in support of a range of advisory-related tasks detailing justifications in the data, discrepancies and possible enhancements to the data to ensure that work completed demonstrates solid thinking and problem solving skills

Candidate specification: So, what kind of person are we looking for? A key element necessary to be successful in this role is the ability to deliver both forecasting and capacity optimisation / analysis – although we’d certainly encourage applications from candidates that may only have one of these two skills. Additionally, we’ll need to see knowledge and a proven track record delivering detailed air market and traffic forecasting reports, describing risks and suitability as well as knowledge of air market historical and planned development at a global, regional and local level. You’ll need to be able to travel and work overseas (sometimes at short notice) as required.

We are looking for candidates with the following characteristics:

  • An engaging and collaborative team member
  • A can-do attitude
  • The willingness to undertake tasks that may not always be the most exciting but are critical to the success of the projects
  • The ability to engage as part of a multi-disciplinary team and a diverse range of projects
  • A methodical and numerical approach to problem solving and critical thinking
  • An ability to explain the analysis to a non-technical audience
  • The ability to lead tasks independently
  • An ability to work under a flexible (agile) working arrangement both in office and remotely
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and colleagues
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail, being able to oversee the development of excel models and PowerPoint presentations, telling the story and connecting it back to the client’s challenge of us
  • Advanced user of Word, PowerPoint and Excel (Power BI desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to pick up or investigate / research things such as coding and other analytics-related tasks to support project delivery
  • Experience with other software including AviPlan, Infraworks, Navisworks, Revit and/or 3D visualisation tools will be favourably considered.
